Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.
Everyone has heard of this quote by this point in their life. Especially around the time one is looking for their career path. In an ideal world, yes, choose the job you love.
But, what if this career doesn’t have enough money to survive? Not enough jobs? What if one is simply not good at their passion career? I would much rather suggest one does what they are good at rather than do what they love for a career (but pick up their passion as a side job or hobby).
The world isn’t perfect, humans aren’t perfect, so we can’t look at our lives from a perfect standpoint. If money is a problem, you will need to adapt and adjust your plan. Always try to continue with your passion career as a side job or hobby. Making the effort to stay involved with your passion will undoubtedly create more happiness in your everyday life.
People have different interests, different tastes, different loves. What happens when someone who loves to bake, is a terrible baker? They probably shouldn’t open up a bakery. They can try to learn and improve their baking skills, but if this doesn’t work, they need to move on and do something they are good at. Again, I would suggest for them to still bake in their off time because it is something that will add enjoyment in their day and overall in their life.
There are a lot of great professionals in the workplace that have jobs they are good at even though they would rather be doing something else. If you can’t do what you love, do what you do well.
At the end of the day, if you can’t (for whatever reason) do what you love for your career, you are like most people. If this is the case, find something you do well, something you can succeed in, and take the plunge. Be as successful as you can in this career and if at all possible, stay involved with what you love. Either as a side job, or as a passion project, your life will be much more enjoyable if you continue to do what you love.
